Gardening is not without its challenges, but the reward is beautiful. Get an introduction to growing a cut flower garden—and then, actually grow one!— in this three-part series.
The classes begin on February 19th with The ABCs of the Cut Flower Garden. In this class, students will learn about 26 cut flower species and varieties. This class will also touch on plant and seed sourcing and some light growing information, as applicable.
On March 19th, students will use the foundational knowledge from February to embark on the growing aspect of varieties. This class will cover gardening tools and equipment, garden preparation, plant and seed selection, site location, spacing, pinching, weed maintenance, and harvesting. In the spring, students will have the opportunity to pick up a flat of 48 cut flower plugs and start planting with their new knowledge.
The third and final class on April 16th happens just in time for students to learn how to add dahlias to their garden! Students will be taken step-by-step through the dahlia planting process, learning about unique heirloom varieties, tuber sourcing, soil, fertilization, planting, support, cutting, winter care, and splitting. Students will have the opportunity to pick up dahlia tubers or have them shipped to you and start planting with their new knowledge.
Please note: Each student will receive a flat of 48 cut flower plugs (all annuals) in late-May and two dahlia tubers in April, available for pick-up at Rochester Brainery, located at 176 Anderson Ave.F109, Rochester, NY 14607 (dates TBD). This is a three-part series, so students will need to be available on February 19th, March 19th, and April 16th.Age:

Taking on the role of farmer and designer, Jenny captures the modern garden design style with all flowers, foliage and other natural elements grown in our backyard of Rochester, NY.
