Learn to create a hook with a musical theme out of metal by hot forging. The class will go over the basic operations of forming and shaping hot metal. Forms may be used to help facilitate the bends necessary to achieve the appearance of musical notes.Please note: This class is designed as a teaser to let you experience what it's like to work hot steel. Focus will be on the fundamentals of hammer control to get the steel to respond the way you want it to. No experience necessary and all materials and safety equipment are included. Please make sure to wear close-toe sneakers or boots, jeans and a cotton t-shirt. Do not wear flip-flops, open-toe shoes or highly flammable clothing. Eunsuh Choi is the archetypal immigrant’s tale run through the artist’s filter. Choi arrived in the U.S. with a Master’s degree in glass from Kookmin University (Korea), but determined to pursue further glass education, she chose the Rochester Institute of Technology as a place where she could both study English and earn a second MFA degree in glass. Choi’s work has been featured in a number of magazines in the USA, Germany, and Korea, and her artworks are also on permanent collection in the Corning Museum of Glass, the European Museum of Modern Glass, and 9 other world renowned places. Along with 22 years of glass experience, Choi has studio art experience in metal, clay, textiles, and fiber art.
