Thursday, October 21st | 7:00pm-8:15pm | Introduction to Wine Tasting

If you've ever wondered how someone takes a sip from a glass of wine and knows where it is from, what the grape is, what year it is from and - in some cases - even the winemaker, this is the class for you! It's not magic, but rather conclusions based upon a sophisticated algorithm of deduction reasoning. In this class, we will explore that algorithm and provide clues that will enable you to distinguish between basic types of wine and, more importantly, predict what to expect when you order a glass or buy a bottle. The effects of climate, soils and winemaking techniques will also be skimmed in order to provide some basis for these seemingly impossible proclamations. A series of two red wines and two white wines will be used as examples for course participants to practice and develop their own discriminatory, deductive skills.

Please note: While not required, participants are invited to crack open one or more of the recommended wines that will be discussed in class. They are available, amongst other places, at Pinnacle Liquor on Monroe Avenue in Brighton. Please follow this link for a list of recommended wines. Attendees must be 21+ to participate in tasting.

This class is appropriate for ages 21+.

This class will take place online through Zoom. Links for Zoom classes will be sent 1 hour prior to the start of class. If you do not receive your link, please check your spam or submit an email through our contact page.

Live subtitles will be available upon request during this class. If you prefer a sign language interpreter, please fill out our contact form. Please also let us know if you have any preferences (seating, vision access, etc).
