Every song is the reflection of a society, its culture, its history and its politics. In this class, we will cover an overview of the greatest French voices of the 20th and 21st centuries –Edith Piaf was not the only one! We will discuss the most politically or socially engaged songs, their multicultural influences, and overarching historical trends. Join us for this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their lyrics in French and learn more about the story or artist behind them. Shedding light on your favorite tunes will allow you to enjoy the cultural richness of France. From the last past 60 years to our current day, French songs will have no secrets for you!

Location

After 5pm, all general, reserved, and visitor parking spots are open to the public in Lot E and Lot F. Park and walk through the breezeway to the right of the large orange MAGIC building, taking the doors to the right into Booth Hall. University Gallery is at the end of the hallway.
