By saying one simple word – “yes” – you can transform a blank stage into scenes filled with characters, objects, and ideas, all made up on the spot. Sometimes, an unusual thing happens in one of these scenes, and a pattern develops. Think about the classic I Love Lucy scene where Lucy and Ethel struggle to wrap chocolates as the conveyer belt speeds up. They hide candies in their dresses, hats, and mouths. This is called the game of the scene – a pattern of unusual happenings. If you are a veteran improviser or you want to try improv for the first time, this class is for you. Learning how to recognize and play the game makes for stronger, funnier scenes. Through warm-up exercises, theater games, and short scenes, you will work with your improv partners to create characters and places, while discovering the games that develop. You will get out of your head, trust your instincts, and explore your comedic voice. Not only is improv fun, but it is also a tool for life: it can make you a better listener, public speaker, and creative thinker.
This class is appropriate for ages 18+.
