Learn to create a heart out of metal by hot forging. In this class, students will learn the basic operations of creating a taper and how to form with the anvil to give the heart shape. Time permitting, students will be able to add a hook, bottle opener or decorative finial on the opposite end. This class is open to all levels.

Please note: Metal smithing classes are interactive and involve physical activity with emphasis on hand eye coordination. Please make sure to wear close-toed sneakers or boots, jeans and a cotton t-shirt. Do NOT wear flip-flops, open toed shoes or highly flammable clothing. To ensure the best possible class experience for all students, please contact Arc + Flame Center prior to class if you any have concerns with your vision, hearing, hand dexterity or mental health.

This class is appropriate for ages 16+.

This class will take place at Arc + Flame Center, located at 125 Fedex Way, Rochester NY.

About the teacher:
Jon Kelley is a blacksmith instructor at the Arc + Flame CenterHis journey as a blacksmith began in 2015 when he took his first class. He knew right away it was a place he wanted to be a part of. Jon immediately joined the New York Designer Blacksmiths, where he currently sits as forgemaster for the Genesee region. Outside of instructing Jon is a historical interpreter of blacksmithing at the Genesee Country Village. His interests include the history of metallurgy, the properties of steel and how they apply to tools, and the creation of objects for his home.
