In this class, students will learn how to sew their own sketchbook. Attendees will create their own book covers from patterned papers, fold and prepare papers for sewing, and then assemble the pieces together to create a handbound blank book. The coptic binding highlights the exposed stitching and allows the book to open flat, making your book perfect for scrapbooking or photos, sketching or writing. Materials will be provided for you, but if you have a specific paper you’d like to use for your covers, bring that along! About the teacher:
Rachael Gootnick is a local bookbinder and artisan. She does extensive work on book repairs and restorations and has a deep appreciation for printed material. When she isn't busy running her own business, Just Terrific, she also teaches a layout and design course at RIT.
