Class will begin with a demonstration so you can learn the skills necessary to make each item: measuring, cutting, punching, creasing, edging and finishing. Students will also be provided with alternative options for assembly and discuss the importance of sketching and proper functional design. Then, it's up to you! Students are encouraged to use their creativity to develop their own style for each piece (and even add custom monogramming)! Hardware, leather and some tools will be provided.
Students will be standing during this class.
This class is appropriate for ages 18+.
This class will take place indoors at David Lane Design Studio, located at The Hungerford Building, 1115 E. Main Street, Rochester, NY 14609, Door #2, Suite 450.
Live subtitles will be available upon request during this class. If you prefer a sign language interpreter, please fill out our contact form. Please also let us know if you have any preferences (seating, vision access, etc).
About the teacher:
David Lane started working with leather as a side project to increase his personal watch strap collection in 2004. Not long after he started receiving requests from friends and family. With advice and a blessing from his grandfather, a former shoe cobbler in Budapest, he decided to begin selling his work. Since 2008 he has grown David Lane Design to an entire line of products, from keychains to briefcases, that focuses on high quality, handmade and hand sewn leather goods. David prides himself on doing things the right way, which often times takes longer and requires more skill and patience. The result is a truly one of a kind, heirloom quality piece of workmanship you can be proud of owning.
