Elizabeth Tudor (1533-1603), one of England’s most powerful and long-reigning monarchs, continues to inspire questions about her love life. Was she really The Virgin Queen? Are the rumors about secret lovers and illegitimate children true? Did she deploy her sexual allure as a political weapon? How did her subjects feel about being ruled by a woman? Join this lecture and discussion to discover some of Elizabeth’s many secrets.

This class is appropriate for ages 18+.

Catherine Loomis is a Shakespeare scholar who writes about early modern women and Queen Elizabeth I. She is the author of The Death of Elizabeth I and a biography of William Shakespeare.
