Food (and cooking new food) is so much more approachable than people realize, especially when you have someone who can walk you through every step. This class will take students through the steps for making a full Italian meal: Chicken Piccata over pasta, Roasted Summer Vegetables, and Caprese Salad. Cook along with the demonstration so you can enjoy a delicious meal when class is over.

Supplies Needed:
- 1.5 lbs. chicken breast (full breast or smaller tenders)
- 2 lemons
- 1 small jar caper berries
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 stick butter
- frying oil
- 1 can or box of chicken stock
- salt
- black pepper
- fresh mozzarella (how ever much you want to eat!)
- fresh basil
- your favorite tomatoes (double of what you want to eat - we will use these for the salad and the roasted veggies)
- your favorite balsamic vinegar
- olive oil
- 1-2 zucchini
- 1-2 yellow squash
- at least 1 pound of your favorite pasta
- stock pot
- frying pan
- baking sheet
- baking rack
- rubber spatula
- metal spatula
- whisk
- meat tenderizer OR rolling pin OR small single handled pot
- plastic wrap


This class is appropriate for ages 14+.

About the teacher:
Christin Ortiz has been working in restaurants since she was 19. Starting in the front of the house, she realized early on she preferred the back of the house. Having worked in different kitchens, she is most proficient in Italian and Hispanic cuisine. Most recently Christin ran the food program at Joe Bean Roastery, where she focused the menu on her Latin-American heritage. She loves sharing her passion for food, and wants everyone to be able to cook the food they crave!
