Mushrooms are a fantastic way to add a meaty and earthy flavor to a meal. But the world of mushrooms goes beyond the familiar baby bella and white mushrooms. In this class, students will learn how to cook mushrooms three different ways to create an oyster mushrooms steak, pulled “pork” from king oyster mushrooms, and a portobello mushroom burger.
Please note: This class utilizes soy and gluten ingredients.
- 4 portabella mushrooms
- 1 lb. oyster mushrooms (large clusters)
- king oyster mushrooms (at least 2)
- 1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce
- ¼ c. balsamic vinegar
- oil as needed (about ¼ cup)
- salt as needed
- pepper as needed
- 1 Tbsp. tamari, soy sauce, or liquid aminos
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
-1 Tbsp. fresh or dried rosemary
-1 Tbsp. fresh or dried parsley
-1 Tbsp. fresh or dried thyme
- grill pan (optional)
- cast iron or heavy bottom skillet
- cookie sheet

This class is appropriate for ages 16+.

About the teacher:
Ali is the founder and owner of Spirit and Abundance, a company that seeks to help people connect and cultivate joy, mindfulness, and gratitude in a plant-based kitchen. She is a graduate from The Culinary Institute of America with a degree in Baking and Pastry, and The School of Hotel Administration from Cornell University. During her time at Cornell, she studied Zen Buddhism and that sparked her interest and passion in veganism, mindfulness, and meditation.
