Ready to learn more advanced design skills? In this class, students will learn how to solder and how to choose the right solder and torch for the job. Soldering is an essential skill for jewelry designers who want to make bezel settings, solder jump rings and components, fabricate with multiple metals, and more. This is a techniques class with a focus on hands-on practice using base metals. 

Please note: A prerequisite for this class is Introduction to Metalsmith Basics, or similar experience with sawing, filing, and metal shaping experience. If you have any question about qualifications, please contact Studio 34. Please bring a pair of safety glasses or purchase from the instructor ($5). Please wear closed toe shoes.

This class is appropriate for ages 16+.

This class will take place indoors at Studio 34 Creative Arts Learning Center, located at 34 Elton St, Rochester, NY 14607. The studio is located on the second floor of the largest of the three brick buildings on Elton St. Please use the entrance on the right side of the building. Additional parking is located at the corner of Atlantic and Elton.

About the teacher:
Maya Postell is a senior metalsmith faculty member and full time metalsmith. She has been teaching classes at Studio 34 for 5 years. Maya's body of work is botanical-themed, one of a kind, handmade jewelry crafted in silver and gold. Each piece is fabricated one by one from precious metals and castings of real plants.
