As a kid, ever dream of being a knight, jedi, or musketeer? How about getting en garde and trying the Olympic sport of fencing to fulfill those dreams? In this class students will learn the basic footwork moves, defensive actions, and use actual fencing equipment!Please note: Both first-timers and those who have fenced before are welcome. Participants must wear athletic clothing and be ready to sweat in the gear. Please wear shorts or pants that go past the knee and bring a clean pair of sneakers and a water bottle. All fencing equipment will be provided for you during this class. Masks are required at all times.Age:The recommended age for this class is 16+.Location:
This class is located indoors at Rochester Fencing Club, 3335 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd, Rochester, NY 14623.About the teacher: Christine Griffith is a native of Sacramento where she fenced for 12 years before majoring in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise and sports science at Temple University. While fencing with well-known head coach Nikki Frank, Christine qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2007 and 2008, was the National Intercollegiate Women’s Saber Champion in 2008, Saber MVP in 2008, and ended her collegiate career with 152 victories (2007-2010). She was a personal trainer at Vertex Fitness Personal Training Studio in Bryn Mawr, PA before joining the Rochester Fencing Club in 2011. Adi Nott started fencing at the Rochester Fencing Club at the age of 11. She attended Notre Dame and graduated with degrees in Japanese and graphic design and has a master's degree in clinical social work from University of Pennsylvania. At Notre Dame she was a four-time NCAA Fencing All-American in foil. ESPN the magazine/CoSida named her Academic All-American in 2008. She competed on the US Women's Junior World Championship team in 2006 and the US Women's Foil Team in 2011. Adi joined RFC as coach in 2020.
