Dahlias are the queen of the garden come late summer and have become the hot flower to grow in recent years. There is no doubt why – they are truly marvelous! In this class, students will learn everything they need to know about adding dahlias to a garden. Students will be taken step by step through the process, talking about unique heirloom varieties, tuber sourcing, soil, fertilization, planting, support, cutting, winter care, and splitting. As one of the more finicky plants in the garden, students will end class knowing all the dahlia-growing secrets they need for success! This is a class for all gardeners and flower-lovers alike. Invite your friends, bring your questions, and prepare to learn a lot!
Please note: This class is lecture-style and will leave half an hour for students' questions. Students will receive two dahlia tubers to then grow.Dahlias will be available for pick-up from Rochester Brainery on April 25th and 26th between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m, or shipped.
Age: This class is appropriate for ages 14+.

About the teacher: Jenny Rae Siplo is the owner of Flowerwell, a specialty cut Flower Farm and Floral Design Studio. Taking on the role of farmer and designer, Jenny captures the modern garden design style with all flowers, foliage and other natural elements grown in our back yard of Rochester, NY. She is passionate about growing local, sustainable, and organic flowers that can be enjoyed by all.
