Maybe you have asked, “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” or insisted, “Let me not to the marriage of true minds / Admit impediment.” But have you ever wondered who inspired Shakespeare’s sonnets? This lecture and discussion explores the leading candidates for Shakespeare’s Dark Lady and fair young man, explains some of the sonnets’ sexy vocabulary, and considers how such intimate poems were published in the first place.
