This class is designed to inspire students to create metal sculpture out of steel using MIG and Plasma Cutting processes. Students are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild when creating their works of art. Previous students have made small lawn sculpture, coat racks, clocks, animals, mirrors, and even candle holders! All experience levels are welcome!
Please note: Metalsmithing classes are interactive and involve physical activity with emphasis on hand eye coordination. Please make sure to wear close-toed sneakers or boots, jeans and a cotton t-shirt. Please don't wear flip-flops, open toed shoes or highly flammable clothing. To ensure the best possible class experience for all students, please contact Arc + Flame Center prior to class if you any have concerns with your vision, hearing, hand dexterity or mental health. Breakfast, snacks and lunch included.

This class will take place at Arc + Flame Center, located at 125 Fedex Way, Rochester NY.
About the teacher:
Gareth Fitzgerald Barry is a Sculptor born and raised in Rochester, New York. He has been involved with the Rochester Arc + Flame for six years, having initially graduated from their 20 Week Certification Program and until recently worked as both Professor and Assistant Professor in various welding courses on both the practical and artistic ends. He has earned degrees in the arts from both MCC and RIT, and currently has been an employee for world renowned sculptor, Albert Paley, for the last five years. The abstract sculpture that Gareth creates ranges in size from small intimate work to large scale public artwork and utilizes all of his various acquired skills of metal fabrication, finishing, casting, carpentry, and painting. Gareth has exhibited his work at various galleries and festivals, and his work has been purchased for display by many businesses and institutions. Here is a quote he would like his students to know, “It is my intention with every class I instruct for my students to leave not only educated and entertained, but with finished work that they are proud of and a sense that they could do it all again.”
