Just in time for the holidays, learn to make the best pie crust! In this class, three different crusts will be demonstrated. Students can make any of them, all of them, or just watch and learn! By the end of class, students will have beautiful crusts ready to be made into pie, or ready to freeze for future use. Please note: Pie filling is not included in this class. Students are welcome to use their favorite pie fillings to fill their crusts!For the butter crust, students will need:- 12 oz. flour + extra for rolling- 8 oz. butter (2 sticks), cut into small pieces, cold or frozen- 2-4 oz. ice water- 1 Tbsp. sugar- salt For the shortening crust, students will need:- 16 oz. flour + extra for rolling- 8 oz. vegetable shortening- 1 c. ice water- salt
For the oil crust, students will need:
- 16 oz. flour + extra for rolling
- 4 oz. vegetable oil
- 4 oz. milk or water
- pie pans
- cutting board
- rolling pin
- measuring cups
- measuring spoons
- liquid measuring cup
- knife or kitchen shears for trimming crust
- large fork or pastry cutter
- plastic wrap or damp cloth
This class is appropriate for ages 14+.

About the teacher:
Christin Ortiz has been working in restaurants since she was 19. Starting in the front of the house, she realized early on she preferred the back of the house. Having worked in different kitchens, she is most proficient in Italian and Hispanic cuisine. Most recently Christin ran the food program at Joe Bean Roastery, where she focused the menu on her Latin-American heritage. She loves sharing her passion for food, and wants everyone to be able to cook the food they crave!
