Brain Music Episode 22: The Genesee Three

There's no doubt that finding the perfect playlist can motivate and inspire you. Whether it's finishing the last mile of your run, tackling that laundry you've been putting off, or getting you through your workday, tunes can change everything. So let's motivate and inspire each other, shall we?

This is Brain Music: a selection of songs curated monthly by different members of the Rochester community that we hope will inspire you the same way it inspires its curator.

Today we bring you a playlist from local musicians Katelyn, Tricia and Beth. Together, these ladies make up The Genesee Three: a folksy trio with eclectic inspirations. Without further ado, here's Brain Music Episode 22.

Hey there everybody! We- Katelyn, Tricia, and Beth- make up The Genesee Three, an acoustic trio based here in Rochester, NY. We cover a variety of genres from oldies to modern pop, creating unique renditions and harmonies to make each song our own. As a music teacher, special education teacher, and speech language pathologist, we each bring a different level of creativity when sharing our music with others.

Most of our covers are arranged sitting in front of a fire while catching up and drinking wine. We enjoy performing at intimate venues including (but certainly not limited to) coffee houses, art galleries, charity events, house parties and private events. Whether we are listening to or creating, music is an integral part of each of our lives. It enables us to make sense of our emotions and experiences, and is our best therapy. No matter where we are in our personal lives or what kind of day we have had at work, those harmonies unify and ground us.

Although we enjoy all types of music, we gather inspiration from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Sufjan Stevens, Simon and Garfunkel, and other female trios. We’ve also covered songs by Tom Petty, Mumford and Sons, The Cranberries, and more. When brainstorming which songs to cover, finding the best arrangements, performing and doing “business” together, we find our groove without much time. It’s likely because of our differences, not despite them.
