Brain Music Episode 8: Hanna Landrum

Brain Music Header

There's no doubt that finding the perfect playlist can motivate and inspire you. Whether it's finishing the last mile of your run, tackling that laundry you've been putting off, or getting you through your workday, tunes can change everything. So let's motivate and inspire each other, shall we?

This is Brain Music: a selection of songs curated monthly by different members of the Rochester community that we hope will inspire you the same way it inspires its curator.

Today we bring you a playlist from Hanna Landrum! She is Principal second violinist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Without further ado, Brain Music Episode 8:

I'm Hanna Landrum, Principal second violinist in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and as such music is quite literally my life. I spend my average day practicing, studying, listening to and talking about classical music, and I absolutely love it, but sometimes you can get lost in the technical details of your art and forget what makes it profound, captivating, worthwhile. Whenever I feel this starting to happen, I like to step into some other genres so I can let myself just listen and feel without over-analyzing and restore my perspective.

This is a playlist of tracks that have stood the test of time - surviving my constantly evolving tastes - and always serve to remind me what makes music so truly powerful; whether it's the jagged colors of Son Lux, the quiet intimacy of Saint Saviour, or the weightless beats of vōx, there's always something in here that pulls me back when I need it. I also threw some of my favorite contemporary classical minimalism in there, because I just can't help myself.
I hope you enjoy!
