See like a photographer— learn how simple composition transforms ordinary moments. Discover how to frame the world creatively using your cameraphone or DSLR. Through playful composition challenges, you’ll explore how lines, shapes, and open space can turn everyday scenes into striking visual stories. By the end of class, you’ll know how to apply the rule of thirds, symmetry, and framing, find interesting angles and perspectives, and use negative space intentionally. You’ll also learn how to crop and align photos for balance, whether you’re snapping street scenes, still life, or everyday life’s quiet details.
This class is appropriate for ages 21+.
This class will take place at Arc + Flame Center, located at 125 Fedex Way, Rochester, NY 14624.
If you would like to request a sign language interpreter, will be attending class with an aide, or have any preferences (seating, vision access, etc), please fill out our contact form.
Class ticket purchases are non-refundable for any reason. A transfer into a different class of equal or greater value may be granted if requested at least 72 hours prior to the class date. Students are always welcome to have someone attend in their place, too!
While we know this is not always ideal, as a small business this is the only way we can ensure our teachers are paid for their time and supplies and our venues are paid rent for their space. We appreciate your support!

Matt Rose is a storyteller, educator, and potter who brings a mix of real-world experience and creative curiosity to everything he teaches. Before diving fully into the arts, he spent time as a corporate professional, bartender, and even served in the U.S. Marine Corps— all of which shape his down-to-earth, practical teaching style. He holds degrees from The Corcoran School of Art at George Washington University and Cal-State Northridge, both earned cum laude, and has spent about a decade teaching in college classrooms. Matt’s photography and video work have appeared in places like The Advocate, The Washington Post, ABC News, and the Associated Press, and he works with clients both nationally and internationally. He currently serves as Vice President on the board of a nonprofit arts organization and volunteers with groups such as Outfest, ClockShop, and Hollywood Heart. His creative work has been shown across the U.S. and abroad, and he’s received recognition including the Corcoran Leadership Award and a semifinalist spot in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards. Above all, Matt loves helping people explore their own creativity in a relaxed, supportive, and fun environment.
