When you were a kid, did you ever dream of being a knight, jedi, or musketeer? How about getting en garde and trying the Olympic sport of fencing to fulfill those dreams? In this class you will learn the basic footwork moves, defensive actions, and use the actual fencing equipment!
Please note: Both first-timers and those who have fenced before are welcome. This class will take place at the Rochester Fencing Club, 3335 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd, Rochester, NY 14623. Participants must wear athletic clothing and be ready to sweat in the gear. Please wear shorts or pants that go past the knee and athletic shoes-please no crocs, sandals, or boots. All safety equipment will be provided for you during this class.
About the teacher:
Christine Griffith is a native of Sacramento, California where she fenced for 12 years before heading off to college at Temple University to fence with well-known head coach Nikki Frank. While at Temple, Christine qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2007 and 2008, was the National Intercollegiate Women’s Saber Champion in 2008, Saber MVP in 2008, and ended her collegiate career with 152 victories (2007-2010). Christine’s backround is in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise and sports science with coursework in the areas of physiology of physical activity, exercise and nutrient metabolism, and principles of health and fitness. Christine has been coaching at the RFC since 2011.
