As we move out of the long winter and into early spring, this forest bathing walk offers a chance to notice what’s emerging, both in the landscape and within ourselves. Join Lilac Nature Connection for a two-hour forest bathing walk on the Devil’s Bathtub Trail at Mendon Ponds. Forest bathing is a gentle, mindful way to spend time in the woods that’s quite different from an ordinary hike. Despite the name, there’s no water involved; the “bathing” is about immersing yourself in the sights, sounds, and sensations of the forest. Rather than focusing on distance or identifying plants and wildlife, this experience invites you to slow down, awaken your senses, and be fully present. Through a series of flexible, guided invitations, we’ll wander together, marking the shift out of winter and into early spring. We’ll close with light snacks and time to reflect on the experience.
Please note: This class is an active walking tour (approximately 1 mile within nature). Please wear appropriate clothes for the weather and walking shoes. The rain date for this class is Sunday, March 22nd from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
This class is appropriate for ages 18+.
This class will begin at the entrance of the Devil’s Bathtub Trail in Mendon Ponds Park. Please follow this link for directions. Parking is available in the Devil’s Bathtub lot on Pond Road.
If you would like to request a sign language interpreter, will be attending class with an aide, or have any preferences (seating, vision access, etc), please fill out our contact form.
Class ticket purchases are non-refundable for any reason. A transfer into a different class of equal or greater value may be granted if requested at least 72 hours prior to the class date. Students are always welcome to have someone attend in their place, too!
While we know this is not always ideal, as a small business this is the only way we can ensure our teachers are paid for their time and supplies and our venues are paid rent for their space. We appreciate your support!

Lauren Mohn holds a PhD in Botany and is a Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT). After years in ethnobotanical research, teaching, and outreach, she came to learn that the core of her work has always been supporting others in deepening connections with the natural world. She co-founded Lilac Nature Connection with Elio Lewis to focus on this more directly. As a forest bathing guide, Lauren offers space for people to slow down and reconnect with nature in ways we’re all capable of, ways that can support both our wellbeing and the wellbeing of the land.
The Devil’s Bathtub is a unique, 47-foot-deep meromictic kettle pond tucked within Mendon Ponds Park in Honeoye Falls, just southeast of Rochester. Formed by retreating glaciers, this cold-water pond is surrounded by a 1.8-mile loop trail with boardwalks and scenic views of a boggy, ever-changing landscape.
