Monday, February 21st | 6:00pm-9:00pm | Woodblock Carving

Woodblock carving is one of the oldest forms of printmaking, a relief method where wood is carved away to create an image. In this class, you will watch demonstrations on each step: creating an image, transferring the image to a woodblock, carving, and hand printing. Students then create their own woodblock, carve it out, and have a print worthy of framing! No experience necessary; beginners and intermediates welcome.

Please note: All class supplies are provided. It is highly recommended that, prior to arrival, students consider a handful of ideas for their woodblock. Ideal imagery has bold shapes or lines to make carving easier. Woodblock dimensions are approximately 6x6 inches. Tip: Print out a mirror copy of the chosen image before class.

This class is appropriate for ages 14+.

This class will take place at Rochester Brainery located at 176 Anderson Ave. F109, Rochester, NY 14607.

Live subtitles will be available upon request during this class. If you prefer a sign language interpreter, please fill out our contact form. Please also let us know if you have any preferences (seating, vision access, etc).
