Uncover the hidden history of Rochester on this immersive tour, exploring the stories tucked away in Corn Hill, Center City, and along the Genesee River—places you may pass every day without knowing their past. The experience includes a guided walk through two city neighborhoods followed by a one-hour cruise for a relaxing ride along the river, where you’ll discover unique landmarks, fascinating people, and untold stories that reveal the rich history hiding in plain sight.
Please note: The walking portion covers approximately 1.5 miles of flat terrain on sidewalks and public park paths. The cruise offers both seating and standing areas, with refreshments available for purchase.
This class is appropriate for ages 14+. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please purchase one ticket for each person attending.
This class will take place at Rochester By Water, located at 280 Exchange Blvd, Rochester, NY 14608.
If you would like to request a sign language interpreter, will be attending class with an aide, or have any preferences (seating, vision access, etc), please fill out our contact form.
Class ticket purchases are non-refundable for any reason. A transfer into a different class of equal or greater value may be granted if requested at least 72 hours prior to the class date. Students are always welcome to have someone attend in their place, too!
While we know this is not always ideal, as a small business this is the only way we can ensure our teachers are paid for their time and supplies and our venues are paid rent for their space. We appreciate your support!

Meet the Teacher
Matt Rogers has been sharing stories of Rochester for the past eleven years as the artist behind The Lost Borough, a brand that celebrates the history, culture, and pride of our city. As a native Rochesterian and avid explorer, he finds that the best way for people to truly know their city is by walking its streets and venturing into the urban landscape around them. Outside of history and exploration, Matt's passions lie somewhere between art, life, beer, and LEGO.
